Carbon Fiber Hood Install

DIY: CARBON FIBER HOOD INSTALL
FOR THE 9TH GEN COROLLA

TOOLS:
+ 12MM SOCKET WRENCH OR WRENCH

+ FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER
+ PLIERS
+ AT LEAST 2 PEOPLE

TIME REQUIRED FOR INSTALL:
+ approx: 45min to an hour depending on experience or time taken.
+ the hardest part is swapping out the water spray nozzles from the oem hood to the carbon fiber hood. (be delicate and take your time)

some basic tools…..

1. POP YOUR HOOD OPEN

2. USING PLIERS AND FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVERS, CAREFULLY PRY THE CLIPS OFF THE HOOD LINING PROTECTOR…TRY NOT TO BREAK THE CLIPS OFF.

3. ONCE YOU REMOVE ALL THE CLIPS, TAKE HOOD LINING OFF.

4. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER TUBINGS AND SPRAY NOZZLES FROM OEM HOOD

DISCONNECT MAIN TUBING FROM BAY FRAME AS WELL…

SLIDE OVER TUBE HOLDER AND DETATCH TUBE FROM LEFT SPRAY NOZZLE

5. USING A 12MM WRENCH OR 12 MM SOCKET WRENCH, UNBOLT THE FOUR BOLTS (2 ON EACH SIDE) WHERE THE OEM HOOD ATTACHES TO THE HOOD MOUNT.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANOTHER PERSON HOLDING THE OTHER END AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION. YOU WOULDN’T WANT TO SCRATCH YOUR BRAND NEW HOOD, CRACK YOUR WINDSHIELD OR EVEN WORSE HURT YOURSELF.

ONCE YOU UNBOLT THE HOOD…CAREFULLY TAKE HOOD OFF AND SET ASIDE…

MAKE SURE YOU TAKE OFF ANY BOLT RINGS IF STILL ATTACHED TO THE HOOD MOUNT

6. PRY OFF THE SPRAY NOZZLE FROM THE OEM HOOD USING A FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO SCRATCH THE PAINT OF YOUR OEM HOOD, AND BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE SPRAY NOZZLE ITSELF.

ONCE YOU PRY IT LOOSE, DO THE SAME ON THE OTHER END AND IT SHOULD SLIDE OUT.

remove the rest of the tubings (keep and save to re-attach later)

you should have the two small tubes hanging out from the spray nozzles as pictured below

pull the nozzles out again on both sides being careful

7. REMOVE BUMPSTOPS BY TWISTING THEM COUNTER CLOCK WISE FROM YOUR OEM HOOD. SAVE THIS FOR LATER.



DEPENDING ON YOUR HOOD IT MAY FIT. IN MY CASE HOWEVER IT DID NOT FIT, SO I MAY NEED TO MODIFY IT LATER ON OR BUY NEW ONES. THE HOLE WAS TOO SMALL ON THE CARBON FIBER HOOD…TYPICAL FOR AN AFTERMARKET HOOD.

8. ATTACH SPRAY NOZZLE ONTO CARBON FIBER HOOD. YOU MAY NEED TO FILE DOWN THE NOZZLE A LITTLE BIT IN ORDER TO FIT THROUGH THE HOOD. THIS IS THE HARDEST PART OF THE INSTALL. IT IS SUCH SMALL SPACING ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE HOOD AS WELL. PATIENCE IS THE KEY, SO TAKE YOUR TIME AND DO NOT FORCE. YOU DO NOT WANT TO CRACK OR SCRATCH YOUR HOOD OR OTHER PARTS AND HURT YOUSELF.

MAKE SURE THEY ARE LOCKED IN PLACE AND FIT NICELY WITH THE PAD PROTECTOR

RE-CONNECT TUBES ON THE BACK SIDE

SLIDE OVER TUBE HOLDER

SAME THING ON THE OTHER SIDE

9. USING YOUR 12MM WRENCH OR SOCKET AGAIN…REMOVE THE FOUR BOLTS ATTACHED TO THE WOODEN PEG OFF YOUR AFTERMARKET HOOD (2 BOLTS ON EACH SIDE)

AGAIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE HOLDING THE OTHER END

WHILE YOUR AT IT REMOVE THE LATCH COVER

IT STARTED TO SHOWER FOR 5 MINUTES SO I HAD TO DO A QUICK MAKE SHIFT COVER FOR MY AIR FILTER. I USED A BOX PRETTY GHETTO & jdm yO!1 HAHA

10. USING YOUR 12MM WRENCH OR SOCKET WRENCH RE-BOLT THE 4 BOLTS ONTO THE HOOD MOUNT.

AGAIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMEONE HELPING YOU AND HOLDING THE HOOD AS YOU DO SO.

MAKE SURE THAT ALL BOLTS ARE TIGHTEND

FROM NOW ON YOU MAY WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE YOUR HOOD AS DELICATE AS POSSIBLE & NOT JUST SLAMMING THE HOOD DOWN. ALSO IN SOME CASES YOU MAY NEED TO INSTALL HOOD PINS AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION. REMEMBER AFTERMARKET HOODS ARE SUGGESTED FOR SHOW AND OFF ROAD PURPOSES ONLY, NOT ON PUBLIC HIGHWAYS. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE HOODS HAVE POPPED OPEN WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS/FREEWAYS CRACKING WINDSHIELDS AND CAUSING FATAL ACCIDENTS.

AND THAT IS HOW YOU INSTALL A CARBON FIBER HOOD…ENJOY!!!
